Bocchi the Rock!

Bocchi the Rock is a masterpeice honestly. It was so fun to watch. And the portrayal of social anxiety is really good! As someone who has struggled with social anxiety for most of my life, Bocchi is literally me fr. There is filler, but all of it is very fun, the show itself isn't very story driven so I didn't mind it. I loved seeing all the character interactions, especially the ones with Kita and Bocchi in them. They're girlfriends fr. The merch I've seen for the show are great, sadly I haven't been able to track down any in real life though, so I'm still on the lookout for a figure! One day I'll retrieve a Nijika Noodlestopper! The story was super cute! It followed a young girl named Hitori Gotou (nicknamed as Bocchi) who got roped into playing in a band. It's what she's always wanted, but her social anxiety makes it living hell for her. She's forced to overcome a lot of that anxiety to show the band and the crowd that she truly is an amazing guitar player. As a guitarist myself, the performances are strangely accurate to real life. Oh and also, the music is amazing. They made an entire amazing album under the Kessoku Band name, and holy shit all of those songs are going directly in my playlist! I've even looked up tableture and shit for the Bocchi's parts, and the dedication to making this accurate is really good. All of the parts are pretty hard tbh. This show is lovely, the author also seems very kind. Clover Studios really hit it out of the park with this one. Lately they've REALLY been flopping, but this is great. If Clover keeps pumping out things like this, then I'm sure that I'll find a whole lot more animes I like!

Onimai: I Am Now Your Sister!

I first found this anime through EBay. Insane, I know. I found a listing for a figure of the main character Mahiro Oyama, and I thought she was cute! I did some research and found out who she was, what anime she was from, and what it was about. It's about a "boy" named Mahiro Oyama. His little sister, Mihari, is a scientific genius, and he's a shut-in hikkikomori who stays inside reading manga, playing games, and other loser shit all day. He rarely leaves his room. But, his sister conducts a small experiment on the next meal she prepared for Mahiro. This experiment ends up with 22 year old Mahiro waking up as a middle school aged girl. Hilarity insues as he is able to finally live his childhood happily. I immediatly knew it was probably going to be some gooner shit, but the artstyle was just so yummy i had to watch it! And the main character pretty much being a trans girl was cute too. So watch it I did. I was right. It was some gooner shit, BUT i enjoyed it outside of that! The first thing I noticed is that turning him into a girl was completely unnescessary from his sister. Like, it did not have to be done! BUT for the sake of the series it did. Because it wouldn't hit if it was about being a little boy. Its about learning to live in your body, and finally being able to love yourself once you transition. How transitioning gives you the confidence to go out and be yourself again. Mahiro was made younger and a different sex because her sister believed she deserved to have the childhood she shouldve been birthed into. i think its a sweet sentiment. But lets talk about the animation. this anime had some of the best animation I've seen. I've watched a lot of anime, and maybe I'm just bias because I actually enjoyed this one, but I think the animation was peak. The animators made everything super duper cozy looking all the time, and dont get me started on the colors! The coloring is so so so beautiful! Everything is pastel and cutesy and I rarely see anime with such a well established vibe. And the expressions!! The expressions are all so amazingly drawn, and every face a character makes is cute. That might've just been how it was in the manga, I'm not sure since I didn't read it, but if so then Studio Bind adapted it beautifully.

If you've been on my website for long enough, you know my sense of humour is strange. It's deranged, and I find almost anything funny. But I would like to think the humour in this anime was actually just good. There were a few jokes that just didn't hit, but some of the jokes did genuinly get a big laugh from me. The characters are all amazing, and the dynamics are hilarious. Not a lot of animes are actually able to make me laugh. The only ones I can think of are Bocchi, Azumanga, and Saiki K. I think Onimai handled itself well. It didn't try to be funny all the time, it left a lot of room for the slice of life. I think they developed Mahiro really well as a trans woman. At first she's pissed, but throughout the series she realizes her life is like 10x better now, and that she'd really rather be like this. As a transgender man, I think it was portrayed really well. Before I transitioned I was mostly just a sad person, probably like Mahiro was, but when I actually realized I was trans? Huge. Everything changed. I'm out to everyone I know now, and I'm happier than I've ever been. Just like Mahiro was. I have more friends because I'm happier being myself. Thats exactly what happend with Mahiro too. Also the anime does just show her getting over her social anxiety, and it's just really refreshing. Most Slice of Lives are higher-stakes. Like Wotakoi was about love, and Bocci was about being a good band. Onimai was just about some girl overcoming social anxiety, and learning how to make friends again. It pretty low-stakes. Even though Bocchi is life that too a lot of the time, it is much more over the top about it. I don't mind it per se, but it is worth mentioning. I would make an entire section about the soundtrack but I didn't pay much attention to it. I do remember hearing some bangers though. The tracks also always had a very fitting vibe, it was just as comfy as the story and color palette.

The characters. How do I even start on them? First, Mahiro is kind of just a gremlin fatass gamer. But a girl now. And i love her for that. Mihari is some younger (older now) sister that is super smart and is just happy to see her sister happy now. Did I mention that she also has a habit of just kissing people when she's drunk? See this happens multiple times. This girl is fucking gay and it's hilarious! It makes you wonder "hey is this girl just gay when shes drunk or????" and i do not know! But its REALLY funny an REALLY cute! Every scene where she's the joke, I am always laughing. Now onto her girlfriend. Kaede is a gyaru girl with a big chest and a bigger heart. She's really nice and kind and is pretty much just another sister to Mahiro. Her and Mihari are really close, and Mihari kisses her when she's drunk in one episode. She didn't deny it, but she ban Mihari from drinking ever again. Kind of gay to not stop her. Oh and theres a whole episode about them going out shopping together on Christmas, and it's treated as a date. Along with that, Christmas is primarily a couples holiday in japan. So take that as you will, just know there is no straight answer. This anime is inherently gay and its amazing fuck off. Now onto Momiji, sometimes nicknamed Momijiro. She's one of Mahiro's friends, another middle schooler. She's a tomboy butch who has a bit of a crush on Mahiro. She's kind and helpful and is Kaede's sister. And then there's girl called Miyo. I love her. She is the probably the funniest character in this show with the little screentime she gets. What is her main personality trait? Himejoshi. This girl is a hardcore himejoshi and I am honestly so here for it. Every scene she is in, she turns it into gay shipping. She doesn't like getting involved in it herself though. The one time she takes a bath with 2 other girls, she is flustered the whole time. She is just a cute patootie. All of them have such unique dynamics and it's great. In anime, a lot of the time the dynamics and relationships don't feel real and genuine. they feel as fictional as the story itself, but I cannot put Onimai into that same box. I can see all these people as actual functioning beings, and real people with these exact same traits and lives but outside of a fictional realm. It transfers over really well because it just feels so real and genuine. I love the genuiness of this anime, it is one of it's best factors. Another thing I love about it is the small things. All of the events are fairly small, but they are so refreshing and nice. There are multiple scenes where Mahiro wets herself, and has to run to the bathroom. Now, if this happened once I'd believe it was fine. But it happend like 3 or 4 different times, so it might've just been poorly hidden fetish content but it still does have substance so I do completely hate it. Like. Don't sexualize little girls. Or their pee. Thats not a crazy thing to say, but Im just going to look past that for the sake of this review. They deal with her pissing herself kind of well. Its embarrassing for her, but its part of her getting used to her new body. It also gives her a reason to trust Kaede, seeing that Kaede witnessed her pee herself and promised not to tell anyone. Very ladylike very demure, girls helping out girls is great. I also think it was very human. Anime, or television in general, doesn't really bring up bodily functions much. Maybe its because its gross to some people, or maybe its because its something we would rather forget we have. But i think its the former. I think giving Mahiro her little accident makes her seem infinitely more human, more real. She fucks up something as simple and embarrassing as pissing herself. I feel like that has happened to a lot of people, and it's a mostly relatable experience.

Well, I'm running out of things to talk about. I will now talk about my ratings! Woohoo!! The story is sweet and cute. It is consistent but i think I've already said everything I've thought of. I love it, if it's not obvious. Mahiro is one of my favorite anime characters ever now, I love her.

Now the merch. Oh my god the merch! This show has some of the best anime figures I have ever seen! From garagekits to prepaints, all of them are so cute! They all retain the same childish youth of the show, and they all have whimsy and are just adorable. Most of them are of Mahiro is various silly little outfits. There might be more of other characters, but I haven't found any, neither have I tried very hard to. The sculpts are all really nice too, at least from the pictures I have seen. I want to order one but I am broke, and always am. I also have not been able to find any at any ofthe local anime shops, so I'd have to buy online. I like supporting local businesses so I buy from there when I can yada yada, but I just really hate shopping online. Specially for anime figures. But this ain't about me. People online seem to be more than happy with the products, so I trust their better judgement. I just think everything looks cool and is pretty affordable too.

Filler rating. This could either be a 5/5 stars or a 0/5 to be honest. Me personally, I don't mind most filler as long as it's interesting and has substance. There isn't really a general goal of Onimai, so there isn't anything they really need to fill in. So either the whole thing is filler, or nothing is. Up to you, but I think it's the latter.

overall, I would give Onimai a 5/5. As long as I ignore the piss kink stuff, I genuinly love it. One of my favorite animes with some of my favorite anime characters, and its just a fun watch. To me it's never about if it's written well, it's about whether or not its enjoyable. And Onimai is enjoyable. It is fun, and it's happy. Its one of those anime you should watch on a rainy day, with nothing else to worry about. Maybe get a few snacks, and get comfy. Have some tea, or some refreshing cold drink with you too. I don't think you'll regret it, especially if you've read up to here.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for considering my words. I hope you'll watch Onimai, and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. If this anime can't make you smile, then you have a cold dead soul and thats that.

Yarichin Bitch Bu

I found this anime through the outro going viral at some point. It's an amazing outro I will give it that. Me and my friend had a conversation about it beforehand. We discussed what we thought the anime was. He claimed it was literally just BL rape porn with zero plot. I figured that since the internet seems to generalize things to a quite extreme degree, that it probably wouldn't be that bad. It was and wasn't at the same time. It's a confusing mix. I claimed that it might just be normal BL, and there are possibly just distasteful rape jokes. I was sort of wrong? I wasted an entire hour of my life watching this garbase so let's talk about it so I'm no longer suffering in silence.

Yarichin Bitch Bu, also called Yarichin Bitch Club fucking sucks. I hated almost every moment of it. It follows Takashi Toono joining an all boys school. He transferred in the middle of the year and he felt quite lonely because of this. And the only person who shows any kindness to him is Yaguchi Kyousuke, also nicknamed Yacchan. Yacchan is a cute ginger boy who is just really nice all around. He's a bit popular and throughout the show Toono seems to start taking a liking to him. And then joining the photography club. They could've found a way to make this not shitty, like in an Ouran High way. But they didn't. They do not give a shit about this anime making any sense at all. So anyways. Toono walks into the photography club and sees all these guys literally just fucking. So, I feel I can speak for the majority of people when I say this is not what a photography club looks like. And another boy named Kamashima Yuu also accidentaly joined. So theyre like "hey what the fuck." And then the club members just explain, "yeah. We're an amazing awesome SEX club that loves SEX. SEX is awesome and cool. And now that you signed up you are going to have SEX with us because yes." And obviously Toono doesn't quite like this. Yuu seems to not care that much though, so good for him? The club tells them that the club is indeed allowed and even some of the teachers are "regular customers." By this, I mean they are having SEX. So that gets rid of whatever sense of realism they had in the show to begin with, which was already very little. They also have a monthly SEX quota, so if they don't get at least 5 partners within the month they will be... drum roll please.... GANG BANGED!!!! WOOHOO!!! And considering that Toono very obviously didn't sign up for this shit, this definetly leaves this on some dubious consent grounds. For some reason a part of me doesn't think it's quite rape but its definetly at least really fucking strange. But I won't dwell on this because the show definetly also doesn't want you to dwell on it. There is a side plot in episode 1, where this emo boy attempts to kill himself. Yuri, one of the members of the club, "saves him." This is in airquotes because he didn't do shit. Just pulled him away and then, get this, called him ugly. And then said his heart belonged to him, and then walked away. Cool okay. I should also mention that Yuri is mentally disabled. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with but, he clearly does not have enough brain power or ability to think to properly give consent for anything. He can barely speak Japanese, and can say a few scattered words in English. If you can't speak you probably can't consent. Anyways. In this side plot, the emo boy, named Tooru Fujisaki begins to stalk Yuri. This gayass stalks this mentally disabled guy for like months because he "saved his life." Motherfucker, what? Eventually, while stalking Yuri, Yuri realizes and then comes outside to talk. He pulls out his dick, Fujisaki makes a heartfelt confession, Yuri then gives his phone number (not without a sexual inneundo) and then they kiss. Thats the end of that side plot. At some point there is a love triangle between 3 of the characters, Takashi Toono, Kamashima Yuu, and Yacchan. Yacchan like Yuu, Toono like Yacchan, and Yuu likes Toono. Wow how yaoiful. I didn't quite get if Yacchan like Yuu, or if he is jealous of him, or if it's both. Yacchan seems to be at least envious of the way everyone likes Yuu. Yacchan doesn't like that he doesn't quite fit in the same way. The anime finishes at episode 2, probably from a lack of budget or interest. I think that honestly a good thing. The few people that actually enjoyed it, could just continue with the manga. And the people who only watched it to be able to say they watched it, don't have to sit through more yaoi-induced trauma. I personally do like yaoi. This just sucks. At the end of the month, when Toono doesn't meet his sex quota, the members act exactly as they said they would. They were gonna gang bang (rape) him. And thankfully(?) Yuu claimed they were actually dating. So, the club backed off. Of course, in true Ecchi fashion, Yuu made out with Toono to show them "proof." And now that you're caught up with every single peice of meaningful-ish plot in this entire 2 episodes, then now I can talk about how much it fucking sucks.

Like I said many times, Yarichin fucking sucks and I hated it. I watched all of it with a scowl on my face, or a smirk when something ridiculous happened and I laughed. I've seen some claims saying that "Yarichin wasn't made for weird shit, its actually comedy." I can definetly see it, but unfortunatly, it is weird shit. The funny parts were funny, that is true. But the sex was god awful, and that was such a common occurence that it simply could not be overlooked. Every 5 or 10 minutes, a censored sex scene is thrust upon you, and its always a jumpscare. If they led up to it or made it make any sort of sense, then I would be less critical. It just comes out of nowhere, has nothinhg to do with the plot, and sucks. All of the characters have no personality. They have one trait, and thats it. The only character who doesn't fit into that is Yacchan, and he just BARELY doesn't fit. The anime doesn't try to hide that it's just barely concealed porn, and I have to give them props for owning up to it unlike most ecchi. The sex scenes are uncomfortable and unnatural. None of the characters have any sort of chemistry, and the only reason to fuck for them is love of the game. You see very little interactions between all the members that isn't sex related and that is such a shame. Some of these characters could be interesting. Tooru Fujisaki, Itsuki Shikatani, Akemi Kei, and Koushirou Itome are the best examples of this. What exactly brought Fujisaki to be so obsessive? Why was he on the rooftop that day? What does he like about Yuri? What does he see for his future? And for Itsuki is similar. Itsuki is of unknown gender and that couldve been played around with a lot. I love gender nonconforming characters, and I was happy to see Itsuki. It gave me hope for the show, which was ultimately shattered. I had so many questions about Itsuki. What are they? What brought them to the club exactly? Why are they so silent? There's so much to ask about all of them! I really liked Akemi Kei's character as well, but theres no reason to keep asking questions that will never be answered, because nobody fucking cared. It is so easy to write a good character, and even easier to write a mediocre character. And somehow, the writers decided none of that mattered in the slightest at all, and decided to make everyone a sex object for the viewers gaze. What makes an anime interesting is the characters, the world, and why certain characters act the way they do. And every aspect of each of those things was disregarded when maki8ng Yarichin, instead thinking, the more gay sex the merrier. This clearly had fujoshis as the main demographic, and I can't critisize as it's not my place to. I don't know what fujoshis do and don't like, but as an anime fan, I can assume that people typically care for more than just fan service.

One of my favorite animes of all time is the Monogatari series. This series has a lot of fanservice, it's mostly known for it to. But, it also balances it out with an amazing plot, amazing world, and amazing characters. It doesn't have literal sex like Yarrichin does, but even if it did, I do believe people would still like it the same. The difference here isn't the content, but how they go about it. Monogatari focuses in on each character and gives them a life, makes them feel alive, makes them feel like a real person. They also created a beautiful world with so many stories to tell, and never tries to limit itself to just the highschool. When fanservice is done, there is usually reasoning behind it, no matter how bullshit it is. Yarichin on the other is the opposite. The characters are 2 dimensional, forgettable, and aren't very likeable. The world is boring and really is just the highschool and a few other peopoles houses rarely. And the fanservice here is plenty, and with no reasoning. The way I see it, fan service has to be paid for with content. The more good content there is to do with teh fan service, then it's debt is eventually paid off. In Monogatari, I feel like the best example of this is a scene where Shinobu Oshino takes a bath with Araragi Koyomi. She is shown mostly naked. There is enough meaningful content in that scene to excuse her being used for fanservice there as well. The fanservice is made excusable, or at the very least tolerabgle by that. It's deep and meaningful. In Yarichin, there is no meaning. There is no good conversations, there is no plot, and even less is there absolutly no love between anyone. It's shallow. In the Goblin Slayer anime, the first episode includes a scene where a woman is raped by a bunch of goblins. It was put there as a lazy way to push the idea that the goblins were evil, and that the show was edgy. It was done extremely untastefully, and it was never followed up upon. Yarichin reminds me of that in a lot of ways. The rape scene in Gobling Slayer was completely unnecessary and had no reason to be there, as it gave nothing to the plot. Every single sex scene and or rape scene in Yarichin was completely unnecessary and had no reason to be there, as it gave nothing to the plot. That scene in Monogatari was maybe completely unnecessary, but it had reason to be in the plot as it established and streghtened Shinobu and Araragi's friendship. That is the difference. It a very missable difference, and it is very hard to explain, but I cannot explain how important that is. Yarichin had very cool character designs with interesting concepts, the blue print was right in front of them, and then they fucking blew it all somehow. It would've been so easy to just make okay characters, but nobody did.

I'm not disgusted of this anime as a bisexual man, I'm disgusted by it as an anime fan. I'm disgusted by how it presents itself, how it objectifies every single LGBTQ man in it, and how there was zero effort put into it to make it a good anime. I've said it multiple times before and I'll say it again, it would've been so easy to make these characters good or at the very least likeable, and they just blew it. I as a bisexual man don't feel fetishized by it for being gay, I feel fetishized by it because I exist and like sex as much as normal person. I don't respect this anime as an ecchi, but as a comedy I do. I found myself chuckling at a lot of the absurdities in it. It heavily relied on shock value, which does feel cheap, but I fell for it. I'll give the manga credit, because from what I've heard of it, it is much more clearly comedy. I think I will skim some of the manga and update this section at some point.

Now that we are nearing the end of the review, I'll talk about my rating. I rated the story 2/5 for everything I already talked about. The only reason it wasn't a 1 was because of Yacchan's side plot of being jealous of Yuu, because I was genuinly invested for those 6 or so minutes. I rated the merch 5/5 because it has a decent amount of merch, and all of it seems kind of nice. I did quite enjoy Yacchan as a character and I saw a few plushies of him and that made me happy. I also saw some really pretty art and fanmade merch. It made me genuinly want to buy some merch before I remembered what Yarichin Bitch Club even was. I couldn't differentiate between how much was fanmade and how much was official, so I just guessed. If they had a Pop Up Parade figure or just any cheap-end figure of Yacchan I would definetly consider buying it. I put the amount of filler as 1/5 stars because I much more enjoyed the filler than the actual ecchi shit. I didn't hate it with an overwhelming passion whenever things were at least close to normal. Overall, I had to rate this a 1/5 stars. It wasn't good, and it made me uncomfortable watching. It disapointed as a BL anime, it disappointed as an Ecchi anime, and it disappointed as a comedy by not make it obvious enough that it was ironic. I will say though, that I do think the anime isn't as bad as how I've seen it portrayed on social media. Goodbye and goodnight!
