Character Summary

Chuuya Nakahara is the best Bungo Stray Dogs character. He's a blunt, hot-headed, and arrogant asshole and i love him. His special ability named "Upon The Tainted Snow" revolves around manipulating gravity. He can lessen the force of gravity, and can also worsen it. He works for the port mafia as an executive, meaning he's one of the most powerful members. He also loves fighting, and takes great pride in being the best fighter in the port mafia. He is also rather sassy and sharp-witted, often insulting and ridiculing his opponents as they fight. As hot-headed as he is, he also does have logic and reason. He's reliable enough to the mafia for Mori, the boss, to send him on some of the most dangerous missions. On missions, he has little to no remorse for killing people if he has too. Even though he is not against killing people, he does try to stray away from it. He prefers to be rational. He is one of the most loyal members of the Port Mafia. He does absolutly everything for them, even if it puts him directly in harms way. Well. Especially when it puts him in harms way. Time for some non-important details!! He is a barely functioning alcoholic, who is also somehow still a lightweight. His japanese voice actor also sang the OP to the first season, third season, and the Dead Apple OVA! Chuuya is also an occasional smoker, only smoking when irritated and/or stressed. Also, in the anime they changed his design slightly, getting rid of his hat chain. How sad... i quite liked his hat chain... :(

Why I Like Him

I like Chuuya for well. Everything about him really! I think Chuuyas a really well written and well rounded character, and I live for his interactions with the others. His homoerotic hostility towards dazai is honestly super funny, and his like brotherly nature around Akutagawa is honestly adorable. I relate to him a lot as a character, I'm not quite sure why, but I do see myself in him quite a bit. He's mean, trys to push everyone he cares about away, which I think is relatable to an extent. His borderline self-destructive behaviour is also another one that I think we all relate to a little bit. He's really interesting to me because he's both a window character and a mirror character to me, which is quite rare. Like, I can analyze and understand everything he does and why he thinks like he does, but I just can't understand what the reason for him being like this is. Is it a product of the mafia? His upbringing maybe? No clue. With some characters I can just think of a past thats plausable and fits their story, but it feels wrong to do that to Chuuya. I think part of his appeal is not knowing what's wrong with him and if he could ever like be fixed. There's not even that much wrong with them, I mean. At least compared to Dazai.

Character Design

One thing that I don't see talked about much in media are the character designs. I see people say that they can be pretty and that they are well. in character. But i rarely see people talk about how they work as first impressions. When i first saw a picture of Chuuya on pinterest a couple months ago I just thought "this a pretty professional looking mafia ahh twink." At that time, I honestly had no idea what Bungo Stray Dogs even was. He just gave off mafia vibes. I could tell from his design that he was very invested and dedicated to the mafia or something adjacent to it. I could also get the vibe that he'd be some sort of tsundere. And I was right! Asagiri really made these designs perfect. When I first saw Dazai I knew he was gonna be a manwhore, and when I first saw Atsushi I knew that he'd be pathetic. But, this part of my website is about Chuuya, not them! So they dont matter!! Chuuya's design, like I already states, is amazing! I love his stupid hat and the fact that he has multiple identical ones. I also like the chain on his hat. The chain gives off the vibe that he's trying too hard to look cool, because who puts a chain on their hat???? His eyes are also pretty. In the anime, they changed the color of his eyes like twice for whatever reason. I'm pretty sure in his first appearence he had brown eyes, but later on he has blue eyes. I'm not sure why studio bones did this, BUT it did cause people to draw him with heterochromia so I'm here for it!! There's also a lot of debate about whether his hair is orange/ginger or brown. I thought everyone agreed that he was a ginger. I mean, he has orange hair so how is he not???? But a lot of people like to think hes brunette, whether its because they actually think that or they want to relate to him, im not sure.

Dumb Headcanons

I haven't read a lot of peoples shrines, so im not sure if putting headcanons in them is normal, but im gonna do that anyway! I dont usually headcanon characters to be more like myself, but to make them more entertaining and understandable to me, so keep that in mind. I think Chuuya would be absolutly terrible at math, like I mean TERRIBLE. Can barely do his basic multiplication at the ripe age of 22. I also think that he'd get really defensive if anyone pointed it out to him. I also like to think that he reads Shonen. Im not sure what is and isnt a thing in the Bungo universe BUT i think Chuuya would've loved Chainsaw Man. He would have been a DenReze truther. I feel like this he'd be very good at card games but terrible at Uno specifically. And also would rage quit at board games. I also think that the reason he's so rough and mean to Dazai is a form of affection. On his days off he'd probably be the type to sleep until noon as well. I also headcanon him to have a bunch of peircings. Like a septum, snakebites, an ala, and an erl. maybe also a monroe. Also of course the heterochromia headcanon is great. I see a lot of that one, and it just makes sense. Time for rapid fire! He hates mayonnaise. He's dyslexic. He takes those stupid fucking height supplements knowing they don't fucking work. he drinks with yosano. I think hed also like name his motorcycle like one of those american guys whos lowkey in love with their truck. has absolutely no relationship experience but likes to act like women love him.
